U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Colleagues Lead Resolution to Recognize ‘American Girls in Sports Day’
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 13, 2024 — U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and 20 of their Senate Republican colleagues recently introduced a resolution to recognize October 10 as ‘American Girls in Sports Day.’
The resolution also affirms that “Title IX is under attack by the Biden Administration,” “recognizes the importance of Title IX in protecting biological women in sports,” and “calls on sports-governing bodies in the United States and abroad to protect biological women and girls in sports.”
“I am proud to celebrate and protect women’s sports not just for my own daughter, but for girls and women all across our nation. When I watch her compete on the volleyball court or at a track meet, I’m grateful she has the opportunity to learn, grow, and strive for success in a safe and fair environment. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration is now putting that opportunity at risk for generations of girls and young women to come,” said Senator Britt. “I will continue to fight back against President Biden’s assault on Title IX, which for decades has been instrumental to providing female student-athletes the opportunity to compete fairly and safely, gain leadership skills, and build their confidence.”

Today, the Biden administration is intent on erasing the contributions made by women and changing the world of athletics as we know it. Now more than ever, it’s important to celebrate girls and women in sports, and I’m glad to champion this resolution in their honor,” said Senator Blackburn.
Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.Dak.), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Pete Ricketts (R-Nebr.), and Mike Lee (R-Utah) additionally cosponsored the resolution.
Riley Gaines, Caitlyn Jenner, Sage Steele, Concerned Women for America, Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Family Policy Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom, and Parents Defending Education Action have endorsed this resolution.

In March, Senator Britt participated in a roundtable event with Senators Tuberville, Lummis, and Hyde-Smith, along with former ESPN broadcaster Sage Steele, on the importance of preserving Title IX in women’s sports.
Senator Britt recently questioned Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona regarding the Administration’s Title IX rulemakings. She has also cosponsored Senator Hyde-Smith’s resolution to establish a Women’s Bill of Rights.
Additionally, Senator Britt is a cosponsor of Senator Laphonza Butler’s (R-Calif.) bipartisan resolution recognizing February 7 as “National Girls & Women in Sports Day” to highlight the achievements of women athletes and bring attention to the value they add to sports and our communities.
