U.S. Senator Katie Britt Advances $3 Million for City of Union Springs Water System
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 30, 2024 – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), as a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, locked in $3 million for the City of Union Springs in the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This congressionally directed spending would enable the Board of Utilities to fund substantial improvements for its water system.
Water system improvements would include the construction of a new water supply production well and a new 500,000-gallon elevated water storage tank. These improvements are vital to several major facilities in their service area. The elevated water storage tank would ensure the water system maintains consistent water pressure and water service at local critical care facilities, including the Spring Manor Assisted Living Facility (Long-term and Hospice care), the Bullock County Hospital, and the Fresenius Kidney Dialysis Clinic. Wayne Sanderson Farms also maintains an 85,000 square foot processing facility located in Union Springs that employs 900 people and is the largest water customer within the system using more than half of all water produced by the system. The planned expansion of operations at the Wayne Sanderson Farms facility requires additional water storage capacity and water supply resources that these improvements will allow the Utilities Board to meet.
“When I joined the Appropriations Committee, I promised to return your hard-earned taxpayer dollars home to Alabama, and with this funding I am proud to have locked in $3 million for the City of Union Springs Water Systems. These funds would enable the construction of a new water supply production well and a new 500,000-gallon water storage tank that would provide for local critical care facilities,” said Senator Britt.
The FY25 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
