U.S. Senator Katie Britt Advocates for Individuals with Disabilities and their Families

Participates in a Roundtable discussing the Ensuring Nationwide Access to Better Life Experience (ENABLE) Act

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 19, 2024 – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) yesterday participated in a roundtable with Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) to discuss and raise awareness for the Ensuring Nationwide Access to Better Life Experience (ENABLE) Act. The ENABLE Act would allow individuals with disabilities and their families to save and invest through tax-free savings accounts while protecting eligibility to federal programs like Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

During the roundtable, Senator Britt discussed the importance of this legislation and welcomed Alabama State Treasurer Young Boozer, who also participated in the discussion.

“. . . The ENABLE Act would empower families and enhance economic opportunities for Americans with disabilities. I am proud to be a co-sponsor…” said Senator Britt. “I’m also proud of the work that Alabama has done. . . in its own ABLE Savings Plan program – and particularly the leadership of our Treasurer. . . I know that y’all were pleased to hear him talk about the success of our program, and the opportunity it has provided to over 1,000 individuals in our great state. I look forward to continuing to work with him and in particular, to partner on this, as well as [with] every person in this room.”

Through providing opportunities to invest and save towards their futures, this truly will change lives. And if you look around this room, as politics are pretty stark here in Washington, D.C., it’s nice to see people from different states, different walks of life, and different political parties, sitting here united for a common cause,” said Senator Britt.
