U.S. Senator Katie Britt: Senate Democrats’ Partisan Homeland Appropriations Bill Fails to Provide Needed Border Security Resources

November 14, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 14, 2024 – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, criticized Senate Democrats for posting a partisan Homeland Security Appropriation bill containing substantial flaws, including ones that would prolong America’s border security crisis. The other 11 appropriations bills all passed out of the committee on a bipartisan basis after an open and public markup process.

“On a unilateral, partisan basis, Senate Democrats chose to post a Homeland Security bill that falls woefully short of what’s needed to combat America’s border crisis and strengthen interior immigration enforcement,” said Subcommittee Ranking Member Britt. “This is extremely disappointing, especially following President Trump’s resounding victory earlier this month. Senate Democrats know he is going to immediately take action to clean up the Biden-Harris Administration’s mess at the border, so instead of working with Republicans to create a responsible appropriations bill they chose to release a product that would leave a Trump Administration short of the resources they need to secure our border. This is clearly not what the American people want. When Republicans return to the majority in January, we will fix what Democrats have broken.”
