U.S. Senator Katie Britt to Chair Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations
Voices continued commitment to securing border, making America safer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) today announced she will serve as Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on the Senate Committee on Appropriations in the 119th Congress. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) will serve as Ranking Member of the subcommittee.
The subcommittee has primary jurisdiction over the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Transportation and Security Administration, and many other homeland security components. Senator Britt served as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee during the 118th Congress.
“Given the unprecedented border crisis and the rising threats to our homeland we’ve faced under the Biden-Harris Administration, this is a critical role at a critical time for our country,” said Senator Britt. “As Chair of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I will have the opportunity to ensure our subcommittee focuses on securing our border and making America safer. It is a tremendous honor and responsibility that I do not take lightly. There is no doubt there is substantial work to be done given the mess the Biden-Harris Administration is leaving behind. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on the committee and President Trump to get America back on track.”
Appropriations Committee Chair Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) voiced excitement to work with Senator Britt during the next Congress.
“The Homeland Security Subcommittee holds jurisdiction over a wide range of important federal agencies and programs, including those to secure our borders, strengthen Coast Guard capabilities, and combat the transnational criminal organizations that flood our communities with fentanyl and other illegal narcotics,” said Senator Collins. “I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Britt, Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, to ensure the safety of communities throughout the United States.”
Senator Britt has also been appointed to serve on the Subcommittees on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies; Energy and Water Development; and State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.
When Senator Britt was appointed to the Senate Appropriations Committee in the 118th Congress, she committed to ensuring Alabamians’ hard-earned dollars were returned home. She delivered on that promise in the 118th Congress, and she is committed to doing so again in the 119th.
