Votes to confirm President Trump’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Chairman of the Housing, Transportation, and Community Development Subcommittee on the Senate Banking Committee, today voted in support of Scott Turner, President Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He was confirmed by a vote of 55 to 44.

“Our nation is facing an affordable housing crisis. Inflation, low inventory, and burdensome regulations have put access to housing and homeownership even further out of reach for hardworking Americans. Scott Turner as HUD Secretary, under the leadership of President Trump, will turn this around, so America can get back on track,” said Senator Britt. “Secretary Turner will streamline HUD programs by removing burdensome, unnecessary regulations and implementing commonsense, targeted solutions. I am excited to work with him to deliver real results and improve transparency for the American people.”

Senator Britt recently emphasized her support for Secretary Turner’s swift confirmation. During his confirmation hearing, she applauded Turner’s willingness to serve our nation and the American people. She highlighted the important experience he will bring to HUD in order to reverse the Biden-Harris Administration’s red tape regime and disastrous economic policies that have exacerbated our nation’s affordable housing crisis.

During the hearing, Senator Britt said, “You are going to inherit a tremendous problem, but one that is critically important for people to be able to have their piece of the American Dream . . . I am thrilled about the Trump Administration coming in, you being at the helm, [and] getting [the Department] focused back on solutions and getting real results, rather than prioritizing overburdensome regulations, or mandates, or harmful price controls that ultimately only add fuel to the fire.”

After voting to advance Secretary Turner’s nomination out of the Senate Banking Committee, Senator Britt said“After meeting with Scott Turner and participating in his nomination hearing, I have every confidence he will not only be a tremendous asset to President Trump’s cabinet, but he will also advance commonsense solutions to make housing more affordable for Americans…”
