‘Emblematic of the hardworking men and women the Trump Administration is fighting to protect’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) today issued a statement after meeting with Jeff Denard, one of First Lady Melania Trump’s special guests to attend President Trump’s joint address to Congress. Denard is an Alabama steelworker, volunteer firefighter, and foster parent from Decatur.

“I am incredibly grateful to First Lady Melania Trump for extending an invitation to an Alabamian, Jeff Denard, to attend President Trump’s Joint Session to Congress. Alabama’s steelmaking heritage continues to strengthen our state and our national security capabilities through Made in America excellence. It was a real honor meeting Jeff and his wonderful wife Nicole today. They exemplify the very best of Alabama, from hard work to generosity and servant leadership,” said Senator Britt. “Jeff’s inclusion is emblematic of the hardworking men and women the Trump Administration is fighting to protect. I am proud to be a partner to President Trump in his efforts to onshore critical supply chains, drive up real wages for U.S. families, and usher in a new era of American prosperity.”

Senator Britt has been a constant champion for Alabama’s steelworkers and manufacturing industry. During her first term, she visited Nucor’s Tuscaloosa mill to thank the hardworking men and women who ensure Alabama continues to lead the way in furthering America’s global manufacturing leadership.

Additionally, Senator Britt has cosponsored legislation such as the Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act to bolster U.S. trade remedy laws, crack down on unfair trade practices, and protect American workers particularly in the steel industry, which accounts for around half of all unfair trade cases. “I will continue fighting in the Senate to protect American workers, properly enforce U.S. trade agreements, and strengthen our national security,” she stated upon reintroduction of the legislation.
