Reaffirms support for Alabama’s over 180,000 women-owned businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), and seven of their Senate colleagues introduced a bipartisan resolution celebrating the extraordinary accomplishments and vital role of women business owners in the United States.

The Senators’ resolution comes during Women’s History Month and follows the commemoration of International Women’s Day last week.

“Growing up, I saw firsthand the hard work and dedication my own mother put into her small business,” said Senator Britt. “Women-owned small businesses are at the forefront of driving innovation, job creation, and economic growth. I’m proud to stand with my colleagues as we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring all women-owned small businesses across Alabama and our nation have the opportunities and resources needed to succeed and thrive.”

Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Susan Collins (R-Maine), John Kennedy (R-La.), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) are also cosponsors of this legislation.

Alabama ranks 10th in the nation for the percentage of women-owned small businesses, with 40.6% of all businesses being women-owned. Approximately 180,234 women-owned businesses in Alabama employ over 131,000 people and generate $29.2 billion in combined sales throughout the state.

Senator Britt is a tireless champion for Main Street America and local Alabama small businesses, advocating for policies that ensure they have the opportunity to grow and thrive. Most recently, she voted to confirm President Trump’s Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Kelly Loeffler.

Small businesses are the backbone of our nation’s economy, and Kelly will be a fierce advocate for cutting senseless red tape and unleashing American ingenuity. I have every confidence she will fight for Main Street America and expand opportunities for these local businesses and the families they support,” stated Senator Britt following Administrator Loeffler’s confirmation.
