U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Marsha Blackburn Fight to Protect Women and Girls in Sports
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and several of their Senate colleagues recently introduced a resolution declaring October 10 as ‘American Girls in Sports Day.’
The resolution introduced by Senators Britt and Blackburn would recognize October 10 as a day to celebrate the accomplishments of female athletes and recognize the importance of Title IX in protecting biological women in sports.
“For daughters like mine and future generations, we need to celebrate and protect women and girls in sports. I will fight against any assault on Title IX, which for decades has allowed girls and women to have the opportunity to compete safely and fairly,” said Senator Britt. “I am grateful for Senator Blackburn’s leadership and will continue working with my colleagues to ensure fairness for women and girls.”
Senator Britt previously joined Senator Blackburn in introducing this resolution in the 118th Congress, but Senate Democrats blocked it.
“Young women across the country have suffered injuries, faced sexual harassment, and lost accolades because they were forced to share spaces designed for women with men,” said Senator Blackburn. “The vast majority of Americans agree athletes should only be allowed to compete on teams that correspond with their biological sex. The left’s cowardly pandering continues to put innocent girls in harm’s way, and we must put an end to this assault on women once and for all.”
