U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Tim Scott, Jacky Rosen Continue Fight to Combat Antisemitism on College Campuses

February 20, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) recently reintroduced the Antisemitism Awareness Act which directs the Department of Education to use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism when investigating antisemitic acts on campus.

This bill ensures the Department of Education has a clear definition of antisemitism when determining whether an antisemitic incident on campus crosses the line from free speech into harassing, unlawful, or discriminatory conduct. The full text of the bill can be found here.

“We cannot allow antisemitism to fester in our schools, on our college campuses, or anywhere in our society. This legislation would give the Department of Education the tools to hold students and institutions accountable,” said Senator Britt. “Any American educational institution authorizing, facilitating, or otherwise supporting pro-terrorism activities should lose every cent of federal funding and subsidization. Now more than ever, we must send a resounding message that antisemitism has no place in America—we must stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters across our country, and abroad.”

In November 2024, Senator Britt penned an open letter to Jewish college students amid an alarming rise in antisemitism on college campuses and a week after Israeli and Jewish soccer fans were violently attacked in a modern-day pogrom in Amsterdam.

In her letter, she continued to voice her support for Jewish students and condemned universities that have failed to confront antisemitism on their campuses: “I want to make clear to each and every Jewish student on an American campus: I and my colleagues won’t stand for this. While your administrators may not have your backs, we do. And we always will.”

Senator Britt continues to be an outspoken and strong supporter of the Jewish community and Israel. She was a proud cosponsor of Senator Scott’s Antisemitism Awareness Act and Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act in the 118th Congress.

Congressmen Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) and Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) are leading companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
